In year 1, we learn all about our class authors texts as well as lots more throughout the year.  We learn about different careers through our Busy People books about firefighters, librarians, builders and vets.  The children write information texts about the different jobs and what qualities are needed to be successful in these careers.  We also learn about fantasy stories and stories about adventures.  During the year we will retell the story called How to catch a star by Oliver Jeffers.  The children innovate the story and imagine how they might help the boy catch the star from the dark night sky. They will learn to describe characters using adjectives in a description and will write invitations to an alien called QPootle.  He comes to visit our classroom too, so listen out for him crash landing on earth during the Autumn term.

Further along in the year, the children will retell a traditional tale called The Billy Goats Gruff. They will innovate the story by choosing their own main characters to cross the bridge where the ugly troll lives! Another traditional tale we share is Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We learn the story by orally retelling it aloud and learning actions to the story to help us remember the order of events.  We will write a letter to the Three Bears to apologise for all the mess Goldilocks made in their lovely, little cottage in the forest.
