Year 2

Our class author is called Jonny Duddle. Jonny Duddle is an illustrator and a writer.  He was born and raised in Wales, where he still lives today with his family.  Some of his books include The Pirate Cruncher, The Pirates Next Door and The King of Space. 

"I love The Pirates Next Door.  I like the end of the story when all the neighbours decide they like the pirates because they give them lots of treasure!"

Jonny Duddle Class

In year 2, we learn all about our class authors texts as well as many more throughout the year.  We learn a variety of traditional tales such as, The Elves and the Shoemaker and Jack and the Beanstalk and The Gigantic Turnip.  The children retell the stories and write their own versions by innovating them to change one part of the story.  They will write apology letters to the Giant for stealing his precious belongings and letters of invitation to invite Jack back to visit the castle in the sky! During the year we will also learn traditional tales with a twist. The book is called Goldilocks and Just The One Bear. The children will change the events in the story using their own ideas, and use new vocabulary from the text in their own writing. 

Further along in the year, the children will write an explanation based on a book called In the Garden by Emma Giuliani. They will explain how a plant grows using the knowledge and facts they have learnt from the book.
