Route to Resilience

What is Route to Resilience?

The Route to Resilience initiative enables us to understand and develop character traits that make us unique. It is an evidence-based, practical approach to supporting pupils’ emotional well-being by building resilience and character. We believe understanding and developing our character strengths will support academic success and provide resilience in life and learning through transferable skills. Developing and using our ‘character muscles’ will allow us to be the best version of ourselves. Creating a culture, at home and school, where pupils are given every opportunity to rehearse and strengthen their sense of self is at the heart of Route to Resilience.

Our chosen Character Strengths at Queensmead Primary Academy are:

Courageous       Risk taker       Team player       Leader       Creative       Optimistic       Caring        Supportive       Kind       Confident        Enthusiastic       Empathetic        Positive       Curious       Respectful       Trustworthy       Mindful       Co-operative       Appreciative       Patient
How we are building pupils’ resilience?

Our character vocabulary is introduced to pupils in whole  school, weekly assemblies and then explored further through our creative curriculum and a range of different activities.  Character 'muscles' will be displayed and referred to explicitly during lessons, activities and assemblies to enable pupils to understand and experience each different character trait.

Preparing pupils for the future:

Equipping young people with good character muscles gives them the ability to adapt and interact with others, take on new challenges and have confidence in their abilities.

KUBA is a great way to help your young person build character vocabulary such as teamwork skills.

         KNOW what teamworking means,

         USE teamworking skills effectively,

BUILD teamworking skills by using them repeatedly,

APPLY the teamworking skills to new situations, as a transferable skill.
