Careers and Financial Education

 

Our Financial Vision statement:

At Queensmead, we believe that financial education is a key learning priority for our children to support their future choices, including those related to aspirations and lifestyle. We are dedicated to enhancing our curriculum with real-life contexts and strive to support staff in doing this.

Understanding money is a thread which runs through the whole curriculum – not just in maths! We have developed an engaging and inspiring learning programme which reflects our commitment to ensuring that pupils have a clear understanding of 'money matters'!

Our curriculum is carefully planned to ensure that pupils experience a range of opportunities to learn about the value of money and how money works as part of our society. We encourage them to explore ways to use money which take into account the real life pressures of adhering to a budget.

Our Enterprise weeks offer pupils the chance to design and run their own businesses making and selling items for the school Summer fair and designing, creating and developing games for the Winter Fair.  We have raised lots of money for our school from these pupil-led initiatives.

Pupils also plan and organise their own money-raising events such as cake sales, non-uniform days and popcorn playtimes to name but a few!

'One of my favourite things is when we have a competition to see who can raise the most money at the School Fair! Our class didn't win this year, but we made lots of profit!'

'Being part of the Purple Pounds means we learn the importance of money and how to best look after it, when to spend and when to save.'

'I have learned all about money scams and how to recognise one – there are lots of them online, so you have to watch out!'

'Learning about different ways to borrow money is important – you have to be careful, otherwise you may have to pay a lot of money back.'

We are very proud to have been re-accredited with the Centre of Excellence for Financial Education Award in recognition of the financial education drive we have throughout the school.
