Leicester Schools Linking Project

'We've made lots of new friends at our Linked school - it's fun to see where they live and what they do at their school'

The Leicester Linking Project

Our school is proud to be part of The Leicester Schools Linking Project. The programme forges links between communities by linking children from different schools and enables our young people to meet others from a different community who they may not get to meet during their normal day to day lives.

The children explore identity, diversity, equality and community, using four key questions:.

  • Who am I?
  • Who are we?
  • Where do we live?
  • and How do we all live together?

Queensmead Primary Academy is currently linked with Montrose Primary School through our Year 4 classes.

Throughout the year, our paired classes meet up three times and take part in discussion, team activities and games. The children will also complete identity work in class which is linked to the four key questions, which will help them develop an understanding and confidence in their own identity and what makes them special as well as to appreciate and respect similarities and differences in others.

Intergenerational Linking

Not only do we promote links with school-age pupils but we recognise the value that the older generation can bring to children's learning and life experiences.

During 2022/3 we have been very proud to be linked with a local residential home where pupils have made links with elderly residents, writing letters, sending cards as well as preparing and performing a carol concert with old favourites such as Jingle Bells, Away in a Manger and We Wish You A Merry Christmas - no figgy pudding was served but the residents thoroughly enjoyed the singing! A pupil said:

'I don't see my grandparents very often , I felt really proud doing my solo and singing for the residents and seeing then joining in with the music'.

A fantastic opportunity to learn about the older generation and give something back.
