Summary of Curriculum Intent

It is our aim that, through our art curriculum, children develop their creative imagination, enabling them to communicate what they see, feel and think through a range of tools and media. During their time at Queensmead Primary Academy, children are given regular opportunities to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. Skills and techniques are taught progressively to ensure that all children are able to learn, practice and develop as they move through the school.
During art lessons, children explore their ideas, record their experiences and produce creative work, often linked to a class topic. They become increasingly proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques. Pupils are given the skills to evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art. They explore the work of great artists, craft makers and designers, and they understand the historical and cultural development of different art forms.
Art Opportunities

We maximise opportunities for pupils to showcase their artistic talents by taking part in local and national competitions such as the one above with the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust which was won by a member of our school. We create in-school opportunities such Artists in Residence, whole school projects and curriculum days focusing on Art such as our Culture Day. We work with local organisations including Graffiti Werkz, Buzzing Roots and Spark Arts to give our pupils the chance to work with professional artists and be inspired. Children's bright, colourful art work is celebrated across the school with beautiful displays both in the classroom and corridors of our school.
