Design and Technology
At Queensmead Primary Academy Design and Technology is taught in an inspiring and practical way. It has a vital role in contributing to our balanced curriculum and helping our pupils become the problem solvers of the future. Through the teaching of this subject, our children learn to think creatively to solve practical problems both as individuals and through teamwork.
Our aim is to encourage children to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products within a variety of contexts linked to our class topics, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. To ensure that the learning is meaningful, we make links to other subjects such as mathematics, science, computing and art. Throughout the learning journey, children are given opportunities to explore and test existing products, make their own design choices, utilise a range of skills during the making process and evaluate their final products.
The Design and Technology curriculum ensures that there is an appropriate progression of skills, which are taught over time through different experiences so that pupils are supported to be the best Design Technicians they can be.
